"One year ago, I received a phone call from Connor regarding participation in the Australia Goodwill Series."
Connor mentioned his age and I placed him on the '14 and under "Rookies" team, however during the next 6 months Connor added 20 pounds and 3" to his frame and then I placed him on the SSK '16 and under team. He contributed with super defense at SS during the 10 game schedule. The SSK team final record was 6 wins and 4 loss against the STATE teams". We will now enter many of the SSK '16 in the USA Baseball Labor Day Cup and the SSK team returning to Australia next December.

Erik Owenson, CF and Ray Hernandez, 1B played on the SSK 'Rookies' team in Australia. They are friends from Santa Rosa, California and now attend Cardinal Newman High School as Freshman. Both players were selected in May 2009 for the "trip of their lifetime".
We have invited Erik, Ray and Dean De La Montanya (Cardinal Newman players) to join our SSK '16 in the USA Baseball Labor Day Tournament in North Carolina.

The players received the "outstanding player" award for Game #5 in Adelaide, Australia. Dean hit three HR during the 10 game tour to the land downunder".

We have returned from our 16th journey to the land "down under" with our players and coaches
now aware that the Australians are "very good" and play to win.
Congratulations to Coach Charles Aliano and Scott Braun of the Cubs team and Rob Williams of the Rays team. They faced the South Australians '23 and under Claxton Shield team and the SA '18 and under team.
Recently in the 1st game of the National Tournament, SA won 25 to 6.
Our '16 and under SSK team was coached by Thomari Story-Harden of Fresno and Tom Francois of Santa Rosa, California. The two coaches ended with a final record of 7 wins and 3 loss.

Our three teams played our 1st games with "courage".
The Rays team coached by Rob Williams assisted by Bob Williams managed a victory 6-5 over the Western Australia State team.
Cole Swanson LHP from Torrey Pines HS in San diego was outstading on mound with 2 inning no hit appearance.
Brandon Baranzini shortstop from Montgomery HS in Santa Rosa, hit a 400 ft HR and a double. Logan Daniels 3b from Montgomery HS batted in the winning run scored by Marty Thieman of Montgomery HS. The catchers Bryce Harrison of Walnut HS in Walnut California and Alan
Baldwin from Kailua HS in Hawaii were "fearless" blocking the low pitches.
Defense, pitching and timely hitting and team speed were the evident by
the Rays.
Cubs
In a game between our Cubs '18 coached by Charles Aliano, Cubs scout and
Scott Braun college pitching coach played our SSJK '16 coached by Thomari
Story-Harden former Dodgers player and Tom Francios.
James Martin hit a HR for the Cubbies. Andy Vehr LHP from Poudre HS in Ft
Collins pitched 2 shutout innings.
Daniel Supple RHP from Albany HS, California pitched his 2 innings with
success. Juwun McCray OF/P from Mt Miguel HS in San Diego HS was the
outstanding player for the SSK '16.
Today, the Rookies '14 will play the 1st game

The SSK 14’s played the 14 year old Australian Heat, and it was a hot one with the temperature hovering around 106 degrees. Highlights included Justin Castonguary, (1st base) who went 2-3, and Maverick Silva, (3rd base) who tripled. The game ended in a tie 6-6.

SSK 14's
The SSK 14’s played the 14 year old West Australian Angels with the SSK’s coming back with a vengeance. They won with a final score of 11-8. The SSK team jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning as the entire batting order produced hits. They held off a late rally to secure the victory.

The Australia Heat 16’s jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold off a late inning rally ignited by Brooks Austin’s single in the 7th inning and came around to score on consecutive hits by Michael Silvey, and Connor Soblom. For the day, Brooks, Connor and Michael had 2 hits a piece. Additionally, Fred Jenkins and Brooks Austin finished out the last 3 innings allowing no runs.

The first game of a double header. SSK 16’s won the game by a score of 15-6. Kairee Tekra, Michael Silvey and Daniel Bari had two hits each. Additionally the SSK’s had strong pitching by Daniel Supple and Fred Jenkins.
Game 2 of the series found the SSK’s in a hole. The final score was 8-0 against the Perth 16 Heat. The sole offensive bright spot was Connor Rolain’s 3 hit performance and Brooks Austin pitched a second consecutive scoreless 7th inning.
Rays
Rays defeated the Cubs team 5-1. Richie Mendosa, Reedley HS pitched 5
innings of no runs. Jake Welch, catcher of Windsor HS in Windsor
California hit two doubles.
2nd game was the Rays vs Perth College players, score was 6-3 Perth. Bryce
Harrison pitched 4 innings of 4 hit ball.
the Cubs was victor in their 2nd game 3-2. Steven Burnham Bloomingdale HS
in Valrico, Florida pitched 6 strong innings. It was 102 degrees today.

SSK 16’s
The final game of the Perth tournament found SSK 16’s battling the Perth 16 Heat for a 3-1 victory. For the SSK 16’s Josh Makler’s (one walk and 4 hits) complete game performance was aided by outstanding defense in which several players including Juwun McCray and Connor Rolain made outstanding defensive plays. Daniel Supple also added 2 hits to spark the offence.
As the team prepares to move to Adelaide, they ended the Perth series with a 2-3 record.

Bryce Harrison pitched great the day, caught yesterday and had 2 hits. Baldwin the Hawaii catcher looks good. Cole Swanson and Logan Daniels pitched the game.

Great pitching was the story of the day, with MVP Freddy Jenkins pitching four outstanding innings. He was aided by solid relief pitching by Daniel Supple and Michael Silvey. Offensively, the SSK’s were able to generate runs by outstanding efforts from Josh Makler and Juwun McCray, who combined for three hits and three walks. These efforts led to an 8-2 victory.

The Rookies had a great game with the victory of 14-2 over the South Australia 14’s. Jake Hunt was MVP for the game who pitched 4 scoreless innings and also went 2 for 3 with a double. Curtis Martin pitched the final two innings to close the game. Offensively the Rookies had great hitting from Justin Castonguay and Brandon Miller who had two hits each.

Rays and Cubs Combo teams
First game was the Cubs/Rays players.
Final score was South Australia State team 8 - Cubs/Rays 6
James Martin hit a long home run and was the the MVP for the game.
Alan Baldwin from Hawaii was 3 for three. Paris Selzer of El Molina high school pitcher three inning od four hit ball.
The night game with the Cubs/Rays All Stars" ended with 4 runs for the 23 and
under SA team and two runs for the Combo. Garrett McKelvie hit a HR and was named the MVP.
Cole Swanson pitched a strong 4 innings with a 87 mph fast ball. Many of the Ausstralian players have played pro baseball and also played
in the world Games. AJ Quintero of Vacaville hs played excellent shortstop.

After playing great baseball in back to back games the SSK team fell to the South Australia team 8-2. Michael Silvey was MVP player of the game going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles. The SSK’s hit the ball well all day but were unable to hold the lead after the fourth inning.

Curtis Martin came into pitch for one inning and Henry Burch, MVP for the game, closed the game with 3 solid innings. The Rookies took the lead with the final score of 6-4.

Rays and Cubs Combo teams
The first game on the 28 Dec was South Australia State team 7 runs the
Cubs/Rays team 4. Richie Mendosa, Reedley HS in California pitched a great
game, however defense again was "lapse".
James Martin was the MVP. He is from Reedley HS and a 6'1 outfielder.
Alan Baldwin Catcher from Hawaii contributed 2 hits.
In the second game the Combo team played four innings with a 1-0 lead
behind strong pitcher from the MVP brandon Tilque LHP from corona
Caloifornia. Final score SA 23' 5 runs Rays/Cubs combo 1 run
Today temperature will reach 100 degrees and only two games Rays and cubs.

Rookies came out today firing on all cylinders. Jake Hunt and Justin Castonguay both went three innings and the Australia pitcher, Aidian Soryer pitched one inning to finish it up. Rookies came out today hitting the baseball and playing good defense and great pitching. The top hitters for the day were Dean DeLaMontanya, MVP, with two home runs and additional homeruns by Jake Hunt and Erik Owenson. The final score was Rookies 17 - South Australia 2.

The SSK team was ready to avenge their loss from yesterday against the South Australia team. Josh Makler, MVP, pitched another outstanding game. He completed 7 innings with 9 strikeouts. Offensively, he was aided by an outstanding performance by Michael Silvey and Juwun McCray who had three hits each, Connor Rolain with 2 hits and 2 RBIs by Brooks Austin. Final score was SSK 6 South Australia 1.

The Rookies came out hitting the ball. Ray Hernandez hit two home runs, and Curtis Martin had one home run. Pitcher and MVP Erik Owenson went 4-4 with 2 RBI's.

The SSK team continued it’s winning ways against a strong South Australia team. The South Australia team jumped to a 4 to 1 lead after the first inning. The SSK team, ignited by James Stiltner’s two RBI single, rallied to tie the game in the third inning. Brooks Austin’s RBI single in the fourth inning put the SSK’s ahead for good. The complete game pitching by Daniel Supple, MVP, held the South Australia team scoreless after the first inning. Final score was SSK 6 South Australia 4.
The Rays and Cubs
the older teams played yesterday in Adelaide.
Rays team won 15-6 with the MVP Anthony Reagle from Chula Vista pitching the 4 innings. anthony normally a 2b offered to pitch.
In the 2nd game the Cubs tied the SA '18 5-5 with Justin Baker from Redding pitching the entire game. Shane Rowland was the MVP.
Today the temp wil be 105 degrees.
Also on the 30th of Dec the Rays team played the SA '18 in the greatest game of our 17 years traveling to Australia. Cole Swanson pitched 5 innings no hit baseball. When he departed the score was 0-0.
Their pitcher threw a one hitter. The Rays lost in the 7th inning with a
misjudged fly ball to cewnterfield, a hit batter, an intentional walk and another hit batter for the winning run. Bryce Harrison was the losing pitcher allowing only one hit in two inning.

The Rookies had great offence, pitching and awesome defense. Jake Hunt had three solid shutout innings. Justin Castonguay, MVP, followed up with three additional solid innings. Today’s game found serveral players with homeruns. Brandon Miller and Dean DeLaMontanya were among the many that were on fire with their bats. They were followed by Justin Castonguay, Ray Hernandez, and Curtis Martin. The Rookies swept the series and won today 10-0. Congratulations to our boys! What a wonderful experience for everyone.
SSK vs. South Australia
For the final game of the tournament, the SSK team started out in the hole with South Australia up 4-1. The SSK team battled back as Brooks Austin, with the bases loaded, ignited the three run rally with an RBI. Crucial hits by Kairee Tekra, Ryan Ramey, Daniel Supple, and Connor Rolain pushed the SSK team forward. Connor Soblom, MVP, took to the mound in the second inning and held the South Australian team to two more runs for the rest of the game. With the SSK team down six to five, James Stiltner’s, (catcher) sacrifice fly scored Ryan Ramey (third baseman) to tie the game, and then Connor Soblom walk off single sealed the victory in the bottom of the fifth. Strategic base running played a major part in today’s victory. Freddy Jenkins and Kurtis Palacios’ (left fielder) pinch running gave the SSK team an advantage.
For the Adelaide Tournament, SSK 4 wins and 1 loss
Overall record for the SSK’s in Australia was 6 wins, 4 losses.
