16 UNDER X-PLOSION

In the first game against Canberra Gold, the girls bats came alive!! In the first inning, offense was lead by Jordan Johnston and Kristen Smith with 5 hits and 3 runs. Defense was solid behind the strong pitching of Megan Hair and Chanell Price. Final score was 6 to 1.

Our second game against Canberra Blue was once again very strong defensively behind the pitching of Katherine Hamel and Ashley Larson. The offense was lead by Nicole Bavard and Kristin Nicholas. Final score was 9 to 5.

14 UNDER X-PLOSION

14u team did very well this evening despite a set back with pitcher Karin Rivera being diagnosed with tonsillitis earlier today. We hope she will be feeling better seen and back in the line up Thursday. Chelsey May did a great job in the circle for the first game winning 8-5 with 2 strikeouts. Great defensive catching by Sierra Wood kept team X-plosion in the ball game. Amanda Houts, Olivia Zolke and Erika Girard each scored 2 runs.

The second game of the evening Karin Voetberg started pitching for Team X-plosion taking us to a 15-7 victory. After the second inning the score was tied 7-7 but the bats lit up and Team X scored 8 more runs. 12u pitcher Alexa Limon came in to pitch the final inning shutting down the other side striking out 1. The team played well, though VERY cold, we are having a lot of fun DOWN UNDER!
Our First Day

Well, our first day of sightseeing and games is complete. We are having a blast!

We started the day of with a trip to Questacon. It's a hands on science center. We took the city buses to it, and that was a funning sight seeing our entire group trying to cross our first street. We were all looking the wrong direction for the cars. You know they drive on the wrong side of the street here! We had approx. 2.5 hours to spend in this amazing place. One of the first exhibits was a free fall slide. You put on a jump suit, and hang from a bar about 50ft up when you let go; you fall straight down onto the slide. Your jump suit allows you to land safely. Wait to you see the picture. The bravest of the day was 4-year-old Karlee Rivera. The science center had 6 galleries where you could learn about different concepts. I personally liked the earth gallery where you could learn about all of nature's wonders.

On the trip home, the city busses gave us our own dediscated bus and took us directly to the hotel with no transfer. The Australians are incredibly nice and helpful!

When we returned to the hotel, the kids had 2 hours to hang out and rest before we had to leave for the field. The head of Softball Canberra has offered to cook for us each game day. We had lasagna, salad, bread and a drink. The parents had meals after us and they ate steak and potatoes and adult drinks... The Canberra team had their equipment store open and the parents had fun buying souvenirs.

The games were exciting for the most part. It was incredibly cold when we went out to warm up. The wind was blowing and the temp was dropping. I didn't know if we were going to make it. Once the wind died down, it was just plain cold!

In the 12U game, the competition was equal to rec ball. We had many runs. We didn't get to play much defense, but our hitting is incredible! We will have to adjust our strategy of getting kids innings on playing time, because we are only getting in a few defensive innings. The girls traded gifts at the beginning of the games and had a good time cheering and learning a few things about the game. The pitchers and catchers called their own game and did a great job!
Next on the Agenda...

We are off to the South Coast and Jarvis bay. We have both tour busses and everyone has chosen to go. We will visit the ocean, parks where we will see the native animals, and will stop off at a souvenir shop to get some gifts and things. We will complete the day by entering Canberra from the mountains so we can see this capital at night.

Tomorrow, we will visit the National Zoo, and play 2 more games.
