Play Ball! Game One: Expos U18s v Perth U16s The Expos arrived at Victoria Park Belmont Baseball Club at Forster Park at 8:30 Monday morning, December 22, to play a triple header. All the players reported how happy they were with their Australian host familes, and some of the host moms told me they were not going to let their new sons go back to America! The Expos first game was played against the Perth Under 16s, the All-Star State Team that will represent Western Australia in the Nationals to be played in January. This team was well-trained and executed well. They were dominant and the Expos were soundly beaten. Many of the Expos players were still showing signs of fatigue from the long trip, but there were moments of fine play for them, too. The Expos pitchers were Anthony Martin, Patrick Woodis, and Ben Shivers. Unfortunately, their arms were tired and a number of batters were walked. Behind these pitchers, the team made six errors that proved to be costly. Patrick Kennedy led off for the Expos, getting on through an error, scored, and later drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Ross Blondin hit a single, drove in Kennedy, and scored on Thomas Bommarito's single. Angelo Medal was walked late in the game and scored with Kennedy's sac fly. That was it for the Expos offensively. Kennedy: 0 for 3 w/sac fly RBI, run; Bonnikson: 0 for 1 with 2 walks; Blondin: 1 for 3, RBI, run; Bommarito: 1 for 3, single; Bohannan: 0 for 2; Hanlon: 0 for 2 with walk; Lindeke: 1 for 3, single; Medal: 0 for 2, walk; Foreman: 0 for 2, walk. Game Two: Expos U18s v U18s In this second game, the Expos woke up and executed better. Jordan Muir and Jason Lambert pitched and held the oppostion to just two runs. Defensively, the team made just one error behind them. Sebastian Miles let off with a walk, sole second, and was driven home by Blondin's single. Chris Bohannon walked to lead off the second and scored, Casey Wightman was hit by a pitch and cored, Brock Lindeke singles and scored, Ross Blondin hit a long double and was driven in by Ryan Hanlon's double. The Expos scored 5 in the second. Casey Wightman was hit by a pitch for a second time and eventually scored again, to make the final score 7-2. Miles: 0 for 3, walk, run; Martin: 0 for 1, 3 walks, run, RBI; Blondin: 1 for 3, walk, double, 2 RBIs; Hanlon: 2 for 3, 2 RBIs; Kennedy: 02 for 2, walk; Bommarito: 0 for 2, walk; Bohannon: 0 for 2, walk; Wightman: 0 for 2, 2 runs; Medal: walk; Lindeke: 2 for 3, run. Game Three: Expos U18s v Tigers This third game was a battle through most of the game, but the Expos lost the struggle. Stuart Alexander, Chris Bohannon, and Sebastian Miles pitched. In the first inning, Ross Blondin singled and was brought home by Patrick Kennedy. Chris Bohannon walked in the second and scored on Sebastian Miles' single. Ross Blondin walked in the third, and came home on Brock Lindeke's double. Sebastian Miles singled in the seventh and scored on Jack Bonnikson's double. The Tigers came on strong at the end of the game and won 8-4. Miles: 2 for 4, run, RBI; Bonnikson: 1 for 4, RBI; Blondin: 1 for 2, walk run: Rodriquez: 0 for 1; Hanlon: 2 for 3; Kennedy: 1 for 3, RBI; Lindeke: 1 for 3, RBI; Foreman: 0 for 3; Bohannon: 0 for 2, walk, run; Martin: 0 for 3. Coming up for the Expos in Perth We play a double-header on December 23rd and the Expos now know how tough their competition can be. Everyone is having a wonderful time. |
