Final Adelaide Tournament Games
Astros Vs. South Australia Under 16 Metro The Astros lost 14 - 3 today in their last game of the Adelaide tournament. Brandt Walker, Ryan Stiles and Mitchell Westbury pitched. Tim Roche was named Man of the Match. Blue Jays Vs. South Australia Under 18 Metro The Blue Jays were victorious today in a match against the South Australia Under 18 Metro Team. Pitchers Jeff Shumate, Nick Vaughn and Philip Hann helped their team to the 7 - 5 win. Philip Han was named Man of the Match. Brewers Vs. South Australia Under 18 Metro The Brewers won 4 - 0 today against the South Australia Under 18 Metro Team. Matthew Murphy and Austin Witt pitched. Chris Cheng hit a triple, with J.J. Garcia and Sebastian Miles getting doubles. Austin Witt pitched five shut-out innings and was later named Man of the Match.
Today marked the last day of the Goodwill Series Adelaide tournament. After the games were over, the teams gathered at the field to honor the tournament officials, thank the gracious Aussie hosts and say goodbye to the many friends made over the course of the last week. The American coaches were each presented with a bottle of wine as a thank-you for their tireless efforts as they worked with the Goodwill Series Baseball Teams. Several people from both the South Australia and the USA teams spoke, thanking the tournament officials, scorekeepers and host families. During the ceremony the MVP of the tournament was announced, as agreed on by of all the coaches. The MVP award in the Under 18 group went to Tyler Stevens from the Blue Jays. Spenser Dennis and a South Australia Under 16 player tied for the second MVP award. Many commented on the wonderful time they had during their stay in Adelaide. They expressed an appreciation for the friendliness and hospitality of the local people. As Astros Coach Scipio Spinks said about the atmosphere here, "everything is 'good day' and 'no worries'" After the closing ceremony players milled around, exchanging gifts with their host families and saying goodbye to their new friends. On Christmas Eve the Astros, Brewers and Mariners will travel to Perth to play the last tournament of the tour. The Blue Jays will travel to Canberra. All four teams leave Australia for the USA on January 1st.
