Featured Story: The Arrival The USA teams have geared up to go on their first day in the Land Down Under as they spent the time practicing and getting to know their team mates and host families. Most landed this morning in Sydney after a fourteen hour flight from LA - the longest commercial flight in the world. After a short flight to Adelaide, they headed to the ball field to practice before a welcome barbeque and opening ceremony. This is their first chance to practice together, and for some, their first time to meet. ![]() The Aussie teams rolled out the red carpet with a delicious Australian-style barbeque to welcome the USA players and traveling family members. They served pork hamburgers on buttered loaf-bread, along with hot dogs, coleslaw and potato salad. In the opening ceremony people stood to hear both the USA and Australia national anthem and to hear a welcome speech by the Australian hosts. The players then met their host families, with whom they will stay the duration of this tournament. ![]() Everyone is excited about this wonderful opportunity to improve their game skills, while at the same time experiencing another culture. Astros coach Scipio Spinks says "It's a good experience to come here and join other families and see what it's like." They will meet again at the playing field at the crack of dawn tomorrow to prepare for the first game of the Adelaide tournament. |
