Adelaide, Australia Report: Dec 23, 2004

Thursday

18 and Under

5 - 3, South Australia

Brewers 18 and Under came up short in their rally to beat Team South Australia who played a tight game. Brewers pitcher Carmine Giardina (Florida) struck out five players and gave up only six hits in six innings. Closing pitcher Brett Bollman (Oklahoma) had four strike outs and no hits in the final two innings. Kenny Ford (Florida) and Will Pichard (Florida) both hit doubles.

Coach Charlie Aliano and pitching coach Tom Clark report that driving in runs continues to challenge the Brewers 18 and Under team, but that with continued practice and further instruction between games both offensive and defensive playing skills will increase. The coaches are confident that the Brewers 18 and Under team will make the rally to win tomorrow's Goodwill Series final game on Christmas Eve day.

16 and Under

3 - 1, South Australia

The Brewers defense was outstanding with a strong pitching performance by MVP Jack Helfrich (California). Jack Helfrich (California) pitched three innings with three strike outs and no hits and Kai Rabino (Hawaii) went for five innings with one strike out and only four hits. The team's RBI came from Frankie Giorgi (California).

Despite the fact that the pitching staff held SA to just four hits, SA's good base running early on in the game provided the margin for their 3 - 1 victory.

Rookies, 14 and Under

17 - 6, Brewers

Greg Zebrack (California) led off the game with a stunning solo home run and later brought in a runner to score. MVP John Greer (Tennessee) went three for four hitting a home run and one double. Nick Waters (Ohio) went three for three, hitting in three RBI's. Mitch Thompson (California) hit two RBI's with three at bats. Ryan Albert (California) pitched four strong innings of relief.

Coach Thomari Story-Harden and Coach Kyle Dunning reported that the team played hard for this strong victory and that it was clearly a game of powerful hitting for the Brewers Rookies.
