Game I
3 - 4, South Australia 18 and Under
MVP, Michael Bugary of California went two for three, with two doubles and 2 RBI's. Bugary pitched four innings with five strike outs, surrendering one hit. The Brewer's started taking pitches late in the game, but not well enough to win. This combined with errors gave South Australia the game.
The team put forth a valiant effort in today's game. Team mates that are new to each other and new to the warm Australian climate no doubt account for today's close game. In short, Coaches Charlie Aliano and Tom Clark have no doubt that victory is in store once adjustments to the environment are made and team cohesiveness is established.
Game II
11 - 2, Brewers 18 and Under
The Brewer's turned game two of today's double header into a very positive win. Eric Fry (Louisiana) moved ahead responding to the coach's challenge and Mike Kirkman (Florida) pitched well, staying ahead of hitters with several first pitch strikes. Kenny Ford (Florida), game two MVP, hit a home run and was two for four with a double and two RBI's. Steven Karwatt (Florida) had three hits and two RBI's. Coach Aliano reported that the Brewer's 18 and Under team executed more hits in key situations than in the two prior games.
16 and Under
5 - 3, Brewers 16 and Under
Outstanding team effort brought the win home at today's game. Pitcher, Frankie Giorgi (California), had two outstanding scoreless innings with three strike outs. Chris LoPiccolo (California) captured the game MVP with two base hits and an outfield assist from right field, throwing out a runner. Shane Delligatta (Ohio) had a successful bunt for a base hit. Coach Stewart Smothers reports that the Brewers 16 and Under is off to a great start in the Goodwill Australia series.
Rookies (14 and Under)
21 - 4, Brewers Rookies
The Rookie's first outing proved that team effort pays off. Mitch Thompson (California) captured the game MVP going five for five with two RBI's. Thompson also had six strikeouts in three very strong innings. Adam Adkins (Tennessee) went three for four with a home run and five RBI's. Nick Waters (Ohio) went four for five. Working together, strong instincts, enthusiasm and great hitting is what Coach Thomari Story-Harden and pitching coach Kyle Dunning credit for the team's successful start.
